Keeping It Clean
Earpieces
Your earpieces are easy to clean—we’ve made them removable. Pull firmly to remove the earpieces from your headset, and use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean inside the earpiece. This way you’ll be able to get into those hard to reach crevices. To clean the headset, use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol, or use a 70% isopropyl alcohol prep-pad if you’ve got access to those instead.
Diaphragm and bell
These are the most important pieces of your stethoscope to clean as they’re the parts that actually touch your patients. So don’t be gross. Remember to clean these regularly, even if you don’t have time to clean the tube, headset, and ear pieces as often. Again, a 70% isopropyl alcohol prep-pad will do the trick.
Tubing
The best tools to clean your stethoscope tubing are plain old soap and water. Just use a paper towel dipped in soapy water to wipe down the stethoscope tube, or a 70% isopropyl alcohol prep-pad instead.
Attention!
DON’T fully immerse your stethoscope in any liquid
DON’T put your stethoscope through any sterilization process
AVOID storing your stethoscope in extreme heat
AVOID prolonged exposure of stethoscope tubing to oil/lipids (excreted by human skin)
