Littmann Cardiology IV Stethoscope vs MDF 777 MD One Stethoscope

 Hej Hej, Nurse Jenny Here!

So, a little story before we begin.

I was at the shops on the weekend and as usual went into the knick-knack store to browse.

I'm such a knick-knack lady, I love all the cute little things, pens, hair ties, and anything stationery really!

I came across this little jar that said "Happy Pills". Intrigued of course, I investigated further...

These little pills (they really do look like pills but should NOT be eaten!) have little happy faces on them and when you open one, it contains a small written message inside.

This is what it says on the jar:

Happy Pills
Helps to improve your day!

Dosage: Open daily or as needed
Ingredients: 31 happy quotes inside each bottle
Side effects: May cause contagious smiling
My first quote says:

"No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart"

So true!

The nurse in me bought the cute little bottle of happy pills because once in a while, we do need inspirational prescriptions for our mental or emotional well being.

I will definitely be opening one of these as needed! :)

1. Price

The price of MDF MD One is definitely cheaper compared to the Littmann Cardiology IV. I bought the Littmann Cardiology IV for 180 USD and the MDF MD One for only 99 USD, that’s almost half the price! Probably one of the reasons for that is that the Littmann Cardiology IV has a dual-lumen, compared to the MDF which has only one. Let’s dig further into what differences these two have.

2. Weight

The Littman Cardiology IV weighs 171g or 5oz while the MDF MD One weighs 190g or 6.7oz. The Littman Cardiology IV is already a little heavy for me, what more for the MDF MD One which is even heavier. I like putting my stethoscope around my neck and I must say, you will really feel the presence of these stethoscopes on you at the end of your shift.
If you don’t mind the weight or you don’t usually carry your stethoscope around your neck all the time, then this will not be a problem for you.

3. Acoustics

In my individual stethoscope review, The Littmann Cardiology IV’s acoustics received 5 out of 5 Stars while the MDF MD One got 4 out of 5 stars. This is due to the fact that Cardiology IV has dual lumen tubing which is superior to the MDF MD One’s single lumen tubing.
Double lumen tubing means the sound is clearer and louder with lesser noise coming from the outside environment.

4. Length

The length of the Littmann Cardiology IV is 69cm or 27in, while the MDF MD One is 78cm or 31in. Personally, Littmann Cardiology IV is a little short for me. I would have loved it if I didn’t have to bend as much. The MDF MD One on the other hand was a little too long. When using it, the tubing brushes on the patient’s linen or my arms, so it creates extra noise. The length of these two is very different from each other, so your choice would ultimately depend on your height or personal preference. If you like to put your stethoscopes on cases instead, you would love these stylish and stethoscope cases from Bjorn Hall.

5. Tubing Feel

In my individual review, Littmann Cardiology IV scored 3.5 out of 5 Stars while the MDF MD One scored 2 out of 5 Stars. I have tried and reviewed a lot of stethoscopes so I know there are better stethoscope tubes out there. The Littmann Cardiology IV’s tube was a little sticky and it gets stuck on my neck while MDF MD One was not only sticky but upon the review of the Cheetah print design, the stethoscope has bubbles and printing defects on it.
One thing is for sure though, whatever stethoscope tube feels you prefer or design you like, it is a non-negotiable rule to clean your them regularly and you must know the correct way on how to clean your stethoscopes.

6. Spare Kit

The Littmann Cardiology IV’s spare kit includes Small Soft Ear tips, Hard Ear tips, Non-Chill Rim, and User Manual while the MDF MD One’s spare kit includes 2 Sizes Ear Tips (Small and Large), Plastic Diaghpragm, Nametag, and User Manual. I would love for the Cardiology IV to have different sizes ear tips and I would have loved for MD One to have a convertible bell and non-chill rims. Both have good inclusions albeit different and it will depend on you which spare kit you prefer.

7. Warranty

Littmann Cardiology IV offers 7 years of warranty while MDF MD One has a lifetime free parts warranty. MDF MD One wins this round for me.

8. Total Score:

From my individual reviews, Littmann Cardiology IV got 40 out 50 Stars while MDF MD One got 31.5 out of 50 Stars. To know more about their individual scoring and detailed review of their parts and uses you may read them here:
