Teamwork Tips For Nursing
Hello guys!
It’s me, Nurse Jenny.
Today, I will be talking about something important about the nature of our job. It’s about the team we are surrounded by, which are our nurse colleagues, the CNAs, the doctors, the medical technicians and everybody that’s connected with the care of our patient. These people are part of our team at work and teamwork is important for us to be able to function as one unit.
Being a Nurse is not an easy thing.
Everyday we deal with people when they are at their worst, feeling like crap and more often than not it gets taken out on us, the nurses. It’s not for the faint-hearted and these circumstances come with the job whether we like it or not.
This is why nurses are patient, tolerant and understanding people (most of the time, I mean we all have our limits!). Otherwise, we wouldn’t be nursing, full stop.
But when work colleagues are draining more of your energy than the actual patients, something is not right.
Dealing with personalities comes with the job this is why being a nurse must also come with some level of being able to work in a team, even when a team consists of 10 different opinions and 10 different ways of doing things.
So frustrating! Right?
The thing is though when you step through those doors and you’re at work ready to help your patients and your team, you need to put your personal issues/problems that you may have outside of work or the issues that you may have with colleagues at work, aside. This is imperative in achieving the best possible patient outcome! The reason we are “at work”.
At the end of the day you don’t actually have to like the people that you work with (although that helps tremendously!) but you do have to work with them in a team to achieve the same goal.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t let other people’s negativity get you down. Don’t let people steal your energy every time you’re at work. Keep them at arm’s length. Work with them, yes, but don’t let them get to you.
Stay POSITIVE and DO YOU! Just keep in mind what we came to work for, and that is to have the best patient outcome and that we are there to help them get well and go home.
You are the only one who can control the way you react to other people. Deal with it in the best way that suits you. I normally have a whinge to my husband (who half the time doesn’t understand what I’m talking about anyways, but still, he tries) and then he cheers me up and I’m all good again!
So when you’ve found a nice team to work with, appreciate them and take care of each other.
Your patients are probably the happiest because you WORK TOGETHER.
Teamwork. Not as easy as it sounds…
